Some Things I am Working On

The network upgrade is complete and now I am working on a few other things. One of the things I am working on is the ever elusive BSC Dashboard. I am almost finished with this and with the help of the open source community I am very satisfied with the progress. I am using an open source monitoring app called Nagios. You can do almost anything with Nagios and if you can't find a plugin you can make your own. Look for it in the near future at http://dashboard.bridgew.edu/nagios Another thing I am working on is the BSC SSL VPN. I am going to go to training in May for this but for now I am working this through trial and error, and support from Juniper. We have recently added Citrix to the VPN and it is working great. Also in June I am going to the NERCOMP SANS bootcamp for security training. It is an intense training session that starts at 9:00am and ends at 8:00pm for 6 straight days. Pushing Past Average

If you looked up average boy in a dictionary you will find a description of me as a child and young adult.  I was average across the board.  Average grades, average athleticism, average size, and average abilities.  There was nothing that I couldn't demonstrate average ability in.  One thing that we all know very well is that average is boring. So it is easy to imagine that I would grow up to live an average life.  Before we get into that though let me detail a bit about how average became such a big part of my life. Early on in school I started to realized that I had a pretty good grasp on how to get passing grades with minimal effort.  The flaw in the school systems is that it teaches to the right answers and so therefore one only has to only make sure they have 75% or greater right answers more often than not.  So I unknowingly hacked the system as it was structured to help me out in this.  I did not want to endure the pain of homework and so I...

Network Upgrade Complete

The network upgrade is pretty much complete. We implemented all new Cisco switches and we are now routing at the core. The network performance is better althought the true gains will not be noticed until all the servers are moved over to the new network. Who knows when that will be.
